New West Artists is an inclusive, non-profit society in the Lower Mainland that endeavours to inspire, encourage, and celebrate visual artists through connection, education, and promotion.
NWA Gallery on 12th Street is unique in that it offers an inviting, beautiful exhibition space for local artists and artisans -- a great showcase for new, emerging artists. Our shows are non-juried and we strive to keep out exhibitor's fees low in order to make the gallery affordable for everyone.
We help create a welcoming, inclusive, accepting, creative community by establishing enduring relationships with marginalized voices, artists on the LGBTQ spectrum, non-binary artists, artists of colour, indigenous artists, and disabled artists.
We invite locals and visitors from other communities and regions to view and purchase outstanding artwork and crafts that are one of a kind. We'd like to introduce art to everyone, everywhere!
The purposes of the Society are:
- to anticipate, create and extend opportunities to promote visual art and artist members;
- to encourage members to develop their artwork and business professionally;
- to increase awareness and appreciation of visual art by connecting visual artists with the community;
- act as a resource for the artist community.
New West Artists welcomes visual artists of all levels, from hobby artists to full-time professional veterans, from anywhere.
What We Do:
We operate our own art gallery at 712C Twelfth Street in New Westminster, where we welcome new exhibitors. We also present small concerts featuring local musicians, although these are on hold due to COVID. Space is also available for rental for members and community workshops and meetings. Regular opening hours of the gallery are Thursdays to Sundays noon to 6 pm. For more details on the gallery, event rentals, exhibiting space, and special events, see our Gallery on 12th page.
Other art Shows and Sales include:
- Art Squared
- ultural Crawl
- Visual Verse
- Uptown LiveSapperton Day
- Black and White
- Best of New West
- ... and we POP UP all over the city!
We have exhibited at The Gallery at Queen’s Park, the Anvil Centre, The Network Hub, Century House, River Market (the Quay), 100 Braid Street Studios, the Shadbolt Centre, and various other venues around the Lower Mainland. Many artists open their studios to visitors.
Meetings are held nearly every month but are on hold at the moment because of COVD. At the meetings information is shared about NWA exhibits; signing up for NWA shows; announcements for calls to artists; promotion of our own work, and connecting with other artists.
You needn’t be a member to attend any of our general meetings; however, you must be a member to exhibit in any of the NWA shows.
