I am inspired by the British Columbia outdoors that surround us. I still marvel at the size of our mountains every time I step outside my door. The massive old trees along the river nearby are starting to fall, but new life springs up from their remains. This natural beauty is the heart and core of my art and I am compelled to capture it on canvas.
I have sketched and painted from childhood. Formal education with Kwantlen Polytechnic, first with a degree in Graphic Design, and then followed up by studies in fine arts.
I need to bring the colours, shapes, and texture of my local forests, streams, and mountains inside with me – as this is where I find peace – and also where I feel the most alive. Even when the landscape seems still and peaceful there is movement of light, water, and wind, and the landscape and sky come alive.
My paintings remind me; I am in the right place; this is where I am meant to be. See more of my paintings on my website: WestCoastMillie.art
