to be held October 30 to November 30, 2024,
at Century House, 620 Eighth Street, New Westminster, BC
Artists must be from the New Westminster or Burnaby area. On-line images must be submitted by Sunday, October 13. Digital photos should be 1024 x 768, resolution, 150 ppi or up to 300 ppi. File format: jpeg Label each photo with the artist’s name, title of piece, size in cm. Each artist may submit up to three pieces. Formal Jurying, based on the on-line images, will occur by October 19. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email or telephone by October 21. Accepted pieces must then arrive at Century House by Monday, October 28, 2024, clearly signed/identified with the artist’s name. Wrap/protect the art with heavy paper or bubble wrap which can be labelled and reused to return the art. If the piece does not live up to the online image, it may not be hung. Works must be ready to hang, complete with hanging wire. Works may be for sale, price to be set by the artist.
Labels will have: the artist’s name, title of the piece, medium and price or Not For Sale (NSF). The New West Hospice will take a 30% commission on sales. Two-dimensional works may be in any medium, any size up to 50 cm by 50 cm. Please adhere to the theme as outlined in the exhibition title: A Visual Dialogue on Death and Dying/Grief and Loss.
This is a part of life that we may not be used to exploring or presenting in public. Death and dying have been taboo, hushed, and too private. Your statement will be placed with each piece to facilitate dialogue even when the artist is not present. We want to know what is the artist trying to communicate? (Intention). An Artist Statement must accompany each entry. Use up to 250 words to provide a background for the creation. Describe the emotions, the ideas and the symbolism, if any.
In collaboration with New West Hospice, Century House.
