Visual Dialogue on Death and Dying
Deadline to submit your art piece is Tuesday, September 15 at 4pm
Presented in partnership with Century House Association, Arts New West, and New West Artists
The New West Hospice Society is excited to announce our annual community exhibition hosted at Century House and the Gallery at Queen’s Park during the month of November.
The Visual Dialogue on Death & Dying is an artistic exploration embracing themes around death, dying, grief, and loss. These universal experiences are often whispered about but rarely given space for expression and conversation. Every November, the Dialogue on Death & Dying aims to educate and engage through workshops, artistic exploration and community gatherings.
We are currently inviting local artists to contribute an 8″ x 8″, or 10″ x 10″ or 12″x12″ piece to be included in the exhibition. Depth of canvas or other chosen media should be 1.5″ deep. Each submitted piece will fit into the themes of Death, Dying, Grief, and Loss. These pieces are an opportunity to share your experiences through a visual medium. If you participated last year, submitted pieces should be different from those submitted last year.
*all mediums will be considered
Participating artists have the option of selling their pieces (all proceeds to be given to the artist)
An opening event and public programming will accompany the exhibitions throughout the month of November.
Feel free to pass on to other local artists who may be interested in participating.

An Artist’s Written Statement must accompany each entry. Use up to 250 words to provide a background for the creation. Your statement will be positioned with each piece to facilitate dialogue even when the artist is not present. Describe the emotions, the ideas and the symbolism, if any. We want to know what the artist is trying to communicate (i.e., Intention). This is a part of life that we may not be used to exploring or presenting in public. Death and dying and grief and loss have been taboo, hushed, and too private.
