artist, serial hobbyist, and amateur bike mechanic
Was raised to believe I lacked artistic talent. About 6 years ago partly out of spite to prove them wrong, I started to experiment with drawing and painting. Naturally the early works struggled to achieve the aesthetics I hoped for them. In response to both a terrible job, and a recent diagnosis I started “ADHD illustrated badly“. Adding Badly to the title gave me permission to suck. Over time this established that sharing the story and emotions matter more for art than technical skill. In sharing this I want to encourage people to try art, it does not take much practice to create an art.
Drawing to find what happens next is the basis of my monster doodles, done mostly to pass time at breaks or during meetings. If pressed for I would list Dr. Seuss, and Gary Larson as my influences. Having overcome my surprise that people like the drawings in my sketchbooks and seasonal cards, I have decided to embrace being an artist choosing to share my joy in mucking about with more people.
My series Bicycle Dandies, is on display at the little free gallery on Edinburgh Street in New Westminster. https://www.instagram.com/newwestflag/
