I’ve been a jockey for over 38 years, this year I’m going to tackle my art and start my retirement from being a rider.
Not saying I’m not going to ride another race … just not now looking towards FL this fall , that being said….
I won the very first race I rode and ironically won my last race in 2021…I’ve rode over 45 racetracks but the best time of my riding career was riding with my family & friends. My younger and older brother also rode races along with our father. My older brother, myself and our dad are the only father & two sons to ride the same race…that’s a world record!
My father taught me to ride but my mother was the artist in our family so I’m sure that’s where I get my talents from.
I never started drawing till I was 27 always thought everyone could draw. Then one year I got seriously hurt and was stuck in traction for 5 months so I started drawing out of boredom. A few of the pieces I did got great notice and that’s when I realized I had a given talent. I’ve done commissions for some of the top racetracks from Churchill downs to Emerald Downs in Seattle and also for top of the top jockeys, and horses.
I also play professional guitar for many years opening for “Georgia Satellites“, ”Powder Blues”..and Jerry Doucette to name a few… I love to hit the jam sessions around town and have starting taking a lead role in putting them together. I’m a true believer of supporting local live music. My art has always reflected my life that’s why I drew so many equine pieces and my love for animals, so also along with doing equine I’m going to do more musical art with my watercolours of not just famous musicians but of local talent; getting ready to play; setting up and of course their shows! I feel watercolors go good with music, the lights bring on so many different textures to use on the pallette.
