School! In the footsteps of my older brothers. In Grade One, my world opened up: printing, reading, and drawing. Throughout my school career, won the teacher lottery of gifted teachers.
A lengthy European working holiday in the midst of history, culture, art galleries, musical events, famous landmarks, and museums – inspired me. Back home in Vancouver, I attended Capilano College creating 3-D sculpture (wood carving, clay, marble, and bronzing) which enhanced my 2-D artwork. At Emily Carr College, I graduated with Honours in Printmaking.
My modern studies were in Europe and Canada. Toishan is the birthplace of my Father. In China, I studied Chinese Art History, Chinese wood block printing (traditional Chinese method, tools, and materials), Chinese brush painting in Bird and Flower class, and Chinese Folk Art. The versatile Chinese ink brush work on rice paper absolutely fascinated me. Travelled the country. Politics made my Sabbatical year unforgettable – Tianamen Square exploded!
I express myself through images as writers do with words.
